Preparation.
We are getting ready.
Company is coming over.
Jesus. He is coming back.
Death can’t hold him.
But before then we have to get ready.
We have to walk with him these his last days, this week that we call holy.
The last supper, the commandment to love one another, the washing of feet, the betrayal, the arrest, the trial, the humiliation and torture, the crucifixion, the tomb, the empty day of grief, but then comes Sunday, then comes Easter. Company is coming over, and not even death can stop him, not even locked doors, not even the gates of hell can stop him from coming over.
Sunday is coming, Easter is coming, company is coming over.
Today we begin to get ready, the time of preparation is now.
Lent is about getting ready for this week, and this week is about getting ready for Easter.
We have been getting ready to get ready for a long time. Today we begin.
Preparation.
Grace Church has prepared, we have been getting ready for years, and today we begin the capital funds drive, the Good Shepherd campaign, the fruition of the work of prayer, the work of many hands and many minds coming together for this church that we love.
I love Grace Church because no other church I know of gets ready for company coming over like we do. To continue that good work that was begun for us by those before us. That is why we do this, so that we can continue that work of radical hospitality, of always getting ready for company coming over.
Let’s be clear about who exactly is really being welcomed. It is the Lord Jesus who is breaking every chain and drying every tear, walking through every door.
Company is coming over.
Let’s get ready.
Let the Good Shepherd campaign begin!
