Join us as Soup Saturday kicks off our annual Soup Season this Saturday, January 20th! We will gather together at the Parish Hall beginning at 7:30 AM to chop vegetables, brown meat, and cook large batches of soup! From 8:00-10:00 AM, it will be all soup stuff! Then, in addition to soup, we will prepare a community lunch of soup, hot dogs, fries and dessert for the underfed in our community, to be served at 11:00 AM. We need choppers, stirrers, kitchen preppers, table setups, cooks, gophers, and servers! There are jobs for all. It’s a great opportunity for families and individuals with or without kids to gather and give back to our community. See you there!
We also need volunteers to make soup, cornbread, and desserts at home.

You are welcome to make your favorite cornbread recipe or dessert and drop it by the Parish Hall, as well as making soup in the comfort of your own kitchen with the following recipe:

Vegetable Soup

3 med onions, chopped
1 cup dry red Burgundy wine
1 lb ground beef
1 cup each: potatoes, carrots, celery (essential for flavor), green beans, okra, corn, butter beans (optional).
4 cans beef bouillon
2 large cans tomatoes, chopped
1 cup water
2 Tbsp. parsley
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 tsp. basil
1/4 tsp. Thyme
Salt and pepper to taste

BROWN BEEF, ONIONS AND GARLIC. DRAIN TO REMOVE EXCESS FAT. ADD REMAINING INGREDIENTS AND SIMMER 1 1/2 HOURS. MAKES APPROXIMATELY 4 QUARTS.
